Advertiser Review: Acme Cycle Garage
Acme Cycle has been serving the motorcycling community since 1994. This is a full service ‘mom & pop’ shop,
owned and operated by John & Mary Bowman. It is located at 7643 North 69th Avenue in Glendale, AZ.
They are open Monday – Friday, 9-5. You can make an appointment by calling 623-915-4999.
Soon you’ll be able to visit Acme on the web at www.acmecyclegarage.com. Watch for monthly specials!
John is Acme’s lead mechanic and has 40+ years of wrenching experience to his name, along with some considerable credentials. He was the Service Manager for Glendale Harley-Davidson before the store moved to Peoria and became Arrowhead. He also taught at MMI in Phoenix, the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute,
for three years; specializing in late model HDs. He’s completed more HD University classes -
and acquired the various certifications that go with them, than he can count.
John started out as an auto mechanic. In 1969 he started working on his own Harley & those of his friends.
In 1989 he decided he wanted to work on bikes instead of cars, so he went to MMI.
From there he got a job at Glendale HD and worked his way up to Service Manager.
Acme Cycle Garage works on all American V-Twins. Acme is a full service shop, and includes
a well-equipped machine shop. They have an HD Scanalyzer in-house, for plug-in diagnostics on late model bikes.
They offer TwinCam Gear Drive Conversions. They feature Lucas Oil, K&N Oil and Air Filters,
Avon and Dunlop Tires. In addition to Harley parts they also carry after-market brands such as
Bikers Choice, Kuryakyn, Custom Chrome, Mustang, and S&S.
We know that the term ‘old school’ is thrown around a lot these days, often in the wrong places.
Acme is truly an old school shop, not a parts changing house. Here you are working with actual mechanics.
They’re very emphatic about not selling you parts you don’t need. For example, if you want to increase horsepower,
you’re not going to buy a new set of heads. They’ll work the parts you’ve got… like in the old days. While last visiting Acme, we had a chance to look at some creative examples of in-house custom metal fabrication – both structural and cosmetic.
A testimony to John’s ability as a mechanic and manner as a person is that customers from the Glendale HD
days followed John to Acme because they were so happy with his work. John is a righteous and talented mechanic
whose goal is to do a good job for you at a fair price. You should check out what Acme Cycle Garage can do for you.
Give them a call at 623-915-4999. Let them know you read about Acme in AZ Rider Motorcycle News.

Their website http://alliancebailbondsaz.com/ is very informative, explaining things like the bond process, collateral, types of bonds, and who they can help - which turns out to be basically anyone. You can also read testimonials from satisfied clients.
Gary has eight years experience in the industry. If you’re in a jam, put his knowledge to work for you. He wants our readers to know that his company is truly a 24/7 service. You will not be stranded until someone gets into the office in the morning. He believes that their company mottos tell the story completely –
“Alliance Bail Bonds is the key to your release” and “When you need help, we'll be there”.
I really can’t think there would be too many bikers in the North Phoenix area who don’t know of Arizona Biker Leathers. Over the years they’ve been in business they’ve been the start off point of many biker runs and events, filling their parking lot {and their neighbor’s} with bikes and bikers. And their Customer Appreciation Days are always well attended. But for those of you who haven’t heard of Arizona Biker Leathers, OR if you are out of the area and want to shop them at their website, here’s some background. AZ Biker Leathers is owned by George and his wife Ann. It’s a family operation, with Ann’s dad and son also a part of the team. In addition to all the leather they sell, they also have computerized embroidery machines to make custom patches. They did a beautiful job on our AZ Rider back patches. They match our front cover logo. They sew patches on right there in the store. There is also a full wall of ready-made patches to pick from. They can do leather repair and alterations. With a full store of leather goods it’s kinda like a one-stop shop for all your leather needs. In addition to the leather goods they sell, they also have eyewear, boots, tee shirts, helmets, knives, and other accessories. A newer service they provide is vinyl lettering and designs for your banners, windows, bikes, and other vehicles. George and Ann are great people. You’ll like doing business with them. The store is located on the northeast corner of 19th Avenue & Thunderbird in Phoenix. That’s 13833 N 19th Ave for those who want to use a map maker. You can see a virtual tour of the store by clicking here. Stop by, or call them at 602-843-5847 or visit the web store at http://arizonabikerleathers.com/

Most everyone’s been there at one time or another. You’re out riding and something goes wrong with your bike, or your buddy’s. It’s gotta be picked up and hopefully you can reach somebody whose got a truck. Then you’ve got to be able to round up enough guys to help wrestle the beast into the truck bed.
Now, I’ve got a ramp I keep in the truck bed in case it’s needed. But I also got a hold of a BikeTow™,
which hooks directly into the receiver hitch on the truck. What a slick device this is! No more muscling your bike
up a ramp and into the back of your truck. Just a little bit of a roll and your front tire is up and in the BikeTow™ cradle.
Tie her down and you’re gone. It also comes apart and can fit into a fairly small trunk of a car. It is an ingenious piece of equipment and I was impressed with how easy it was to use.
Not only that, you don’t need a truck to use it. I know a guy who tows his big bike behind his PT Cruiser with a BikeTow™.
This is a good investment for folks who have reason to tow their bikes. Plus, you don’t have to hassle with storing a trailer,
or the expense of buying tags for it. For more information, visit their website at http://www.abiketow.com/
Del Mar Leathers is in Mesa, located at 4815 East Main Street,
in the Main Street Plaza at 48th Street, west of Higley.
Owners Denise and Joe have been serving the motorcycling community
of the East Valley for more than 11 years.
No doubt at least part of their success can be attributed to the friendly,
relaxed atmosphere they have created to shop in.
They will help you find and fit the apparel and accessories you need for a safe and comfortable ride.
Last summer’s expansion made space to allow the store to offer
an even wider range of riding gear to fit to all budgets.
There are necessities and extras including jackets, chaps, vests, vest extenders,
shirts in long and short sleeves, gloves, rain gear, hats, collectibles, helmets, tool bags, saddlebags,
patches, pins, bells, t-bags, boots, eyewear, hairwear, and I‘m sure I’ve missed some other goodies.
Shopping for someone else? Gift certificates are also available.
Among the lines they carry are Milwaukee jackets and boots, Hugger gloves, Skulldana headgear,
First Leathers, and Global Vision eyewear. For those of you who wear glasses under your goggles,
like I do, Global’s Scorpion line was a real find.
Although their prices are already low, you’ll want to check in and see what their current specials are.
These are nice, no-nonsense people, offering friendly customer service and quality products.
Del Mar is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10a-6pm and Sunday 10a-4pm*.

Bright Shiny Choppers ... Okay, so these are teeth, not motorcycles. We know most folks would prefer to be reading about a new shop with all the chrome and fancy stuff they have to look at. BUT, when time comes and you need a dentist, you’ll be glad you were already introduced to Dr. Steve. Otherwise, you’ll be looking at the phone book or a list from your insurance provider. At that point, one name looks pretty much like another. Better to be familiar with someone before you need ‘em. Dr. Steve Vital has been a dentist for more than 24 years, receiving his credentials from Washington University at St Louis. Office manager Tamra has worked with Dr. Steve for more than eleven years. Dr Steve and all of his staff go through continuous education to keep up with the latest information in their fields. His office is located at 3505 E. Brown Rd., Suite 102 in Mesa, AZ. They accept pretty much all of the various insurance and dental plans except Cigna DHMO and Blue Cross / Blue Shield DHMO. Just check with them when you call in if you have any insurance-related questions.
Services provided include all the basics: cleanings, root canals, fillings, crowns, relieving tooth aches, etc. Cosmetic dentistry, including all ceramic crowns and natural fillings, is available. I can say from experience that Dr Steve and his staff are good at putting nervous patients at ease and making them comfortable. Procedures he uses make things about as painless as can be, too. We have both had work done by Dr. Steve and are pleased with the results.
They address patients’ specific concerns plus their overall dental health.
Dr Steve has been recognized by both the State of Arizona and the AZ Dental Association for volunteering
his services to ACTION DDS - Donated Dental Services.
This program is a humanitarian service to disabled, elderly, and medically-compromised people.
Dr Steve’s personal interests include riding motorcycles and flying his airplane. He estimates he’s been riding for about 20 years, off and on; and flying for about 15 years. He is a HOG chapter member and an American Legion Rider.
He enjoys finding new places to ride to. You know those ‘small-talk’ moments that you have to go through with a doctor? Well, it’s pretty cool to be able to talk bikes and such with someone who is also part of the riding community.
Office Hours are Monday through Thursday. {Friday? Gone riding!}
Dr. Steve and his staff practice ‘The Art of Dentistry’.
His website http://drstephenvital.com/ outlines more of their services.
These people are knowledgeable and friendly, and genuinely care about their patients.
So when you’re looking for a dentist, give Dr. Steve a call at 480-924-6169.
Tell ‘em Bruce & Betsy sent ya.
